Ulysses is a novel by Irish author James Joyce. Although it was banned soon after it was published, it has become known as one of the greatest novels of all time.  A classic of the Modernist pantheon, Ulysses pioneers many literary techniques such as stream-of-consciousness.

The novel takes place on 16 June 1904 in Dublin and chronicles the day in the life of Leopold Bloom. June 16th is now celebrated internationally as Bloomsday. Paralleling Odysseus' journey in Homer's Odyssey, the novel covers 18 episodes and has been endlessly studied and admired by fans who refer to themselves as Joycean scholars.
